Soft white glow, slim band, nothing else asking for attention.
What this ring is
This ring bezel-sets a round mother of pearl cabochon on a slim, minimalist band of 18ct gold-plated 925 sterling silver, EU size 17.8. House Of The 18th kept the setting plain so the stone's shifting shine stays the only detail.
What is mother of pearl?
Mother of pearl is nacre, the naturally iridescent layer that lines the inside of certain mollusc shells, the same material that coats a pearl from the inside out. Its soft, shifting glow comes from the way light reflects off its microscopically layered structure, not from any dye. Commercial mother of pearl is sometimes lightly bleached to even out its natural colour, though the iridescence itself is untreated. It rates 2.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, among the softer materials House Of The 18th works with.
Why a bezel setting instead of prongs?
Prongs grip a stone at points and leave the edges exposed. A bezel wraps the entire edge in metal, which protects a soft material like mother of pearl from the kind of edge chipping prongs can't prevent. House Of The 18th used a bezel here because the stone needed the protection more than it needed the extra sparkle prongs can add.
How to care for mother of pearl
Mother of pearl is soft and porous, so keep it away from perfume, lotion, and water, all of which can dull or discolour the nacre over time. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing and store away from harder stones that could scratch its surface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is mother of pearl a natural material? Yes, mother of pearl is nacre, the natural iridescent lining of certain mollusc shells, though it is sometimes lightly bleached to even out its colour before use in jewellery.
Why is the stone bezel-set instead of prong-set? A bezel setting wraps the entire edge of the stone in metal, which protects a soft, layered material like mother of pearl from chipping in a way that prong settings cannot.
How durable is mother of pearl for daily wear? Mother of pearl rates only 2.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, among the softer materials in fine jewellery, so it needs more care around water, chemicals, and impact than a harder gemstone.
What does 18ct gold-plated mean? 18ct gold-plated means a thin layer of 18-carat gold is applied over the 925 sterling silver base, describing the gold's purity rather than the ring's overall weight.
Can this ring be stacked with other rings? Yes, the slim minimalist band was designed to sit quietly alongside other rings without competing for attention.
