What this ring is

This signet ring sets a polished oval face, approximately 10.5mm wide, with a raised winged motif, on a solid tapered band of 925 sterling silver finished with 18ct gold plating. It weighs approximately 6g and is sized EU 17.8. House Of The 18th built it heavier than the rest of the stacking rings in the collection, made to be worn alone on the pinky or index finger as well as stacked.

Why a winged motif on a signet?

Signet rings traditionally carried a family crest or initial, pressed into wax as a seal. House Of The 18th replaced the crest with a raised wing, keeping the weight and shape of a traditional signet while dropping the requirement that it mean anything in particular.

How to care for the gold plating

Keep this ring away from perfume, lotion, and water, and remove it before manual work that could scratch the polished oval face. Clean with a soft, dry cloth rather than a polishing cloth, which can wear through gold plating faster than it would bare silver.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this ring solid gold? No, it is 925 sterling silver finished with 18ct gold plating, meaning a thin layer of 18-carat gold sits over a silver base rather than the ring being solid gold.

What does 18ct gold-plated mean? 18ct gold-plated describes a thin layer of 18-carat gold applied over the 925 sterling silver base, referring to the gold's purity rather than the ring's overall carat weight.

How much does this ring weigh? The ring weighs approximately 6g, heavier than the collection's slimmer stacking rings, in keeping with a traditional signet's solid, substantial feel.

How durable is gold-plated sterling silver for daily wear? Gold plating on sterling silver typically holds up for one to two years of daily wear before it starts to show thinning at high-contact points like the underside of the band.

Can this ring be worn stacked or alone? Yes, it's designed to work either way — substantial enough to wear alone on the pinky or index finger, or stacked with slimmer rings from the collection.
