The Blue Quartz and Green Onyx Necklace from House Of The 18th is a sterling silver necklace featuring a 5x7mm oval blue quartz cabochon set inline with the chain, with a 2mm round green onyx suspended beneath it. Both stones are held in prong settings. The chain measures 40cm with a 5cm extender, adjustable between 40cm and 45cm. Chain, settings and pendant are solid 925 sterling silver with a polished silver finish. The necklace is nickel-free and suitable for sensitive skin.

What is blue quartz?

Quartz is a silicon dioxide mineral rating 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of the most durable stones used in everyday jewellery. Blue quartz gets its colour from either natural mineral inclusions scattered through the stone or from colour treatment, depending on the material. The stone in this necklace is an opaque to translucent pale blue with visible mottling, cut as a smooth cabochon rather than faceted.

How the 40+5cm length wears

A 40cm chain sits at the base of the neck, just above the collarbone. Extended to 45cm, the blue quartz sits at the collarbone with the onyx drop falling just below. The pendant is small enough to layer above a longer chain without crowding it.

How to care for sterling silver

Sterling silver tarnishes naturally through contact with air and skin oils - this is normal and reversible. Remove the necklace before swimming, showering or applying perfume and cosmetics. Store flat and dry in a soft pouch or an airtight bag, as air exposure accelerates tarnish. Unlike gold-plated pieces, solid sterling silver can be restored with a proper silver polishing cloth; avoid contact with the stones when polishing.
