The Moonstone, Labradorite and Iolite Ring from House Of The 18th is a sterling silver ring set with three stones in an asymmetric cluster: a 4x6mm pear-cut moonstone at the centre, a 3x5mm pear-cut labradorite to one side, and a 2mm round iolite to the other. Each stone sits in its own bezel setting on a 1.5mm textured band of solid 925 sterling silver, finished with 18ct gold plating. The ring is nickel-free and suitable for sensitive skin.

What are the three stones?

Moonstone is a feldspar mineral that displays adularescence, a soft blue-white glow that appears to float beneath the surface as the stone moves. Labradorite is also a feldspar, but shows labradorescence - sharper flashes of blue, green or gold against a grey body. Iolite is a variety of cordierite with a deep violet-blue colour and natural pleochroism, meaning it shows different tones from different angles. All three stones shift with light, which is why the ring rarely looks the same twice.

How to care for 18ct gold-plated sterling silver

Gold-plated sterling silver jewellery lasts longest when kept away from perfume, hairspray, chlorine and prolonged water contact. Moonstone and labradorite both rate 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale and can chip on impact, so remove the ring before manual work, sport or sleeping. Store the ring dry in a soft pouch. Clean with a dry soft cloth only, polishing cloths and silver dips remove gold plating.
