Green that nobody dyed.

Peridot gets its colour from iron, straight out of the ground. That's more than most green stones can say.

What this charm is

The peridot charm from House Of 18th Jewellery is a faceted 4x6mm oval peridot in a full bezel setting of 925 sterling silver plated in 18ct gold, stamped 925. An oversized oval loop sits above the stone so the charm slides onto a chain without tools. The charm is sold on its own. Chains are sold separately, and any chain bought with a charm is €5 off.

What is peridot?

Peridot is the gem form of olivine, a magnesium iron silicate. Iron in the crystal structure causes the green colour, so peridot is green by nature and does not need dyeing to get there. Peridot is rarely treated. Peridot rates 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.

Why the loop is bigger than the stone

The House Of 18th Jewellery charms are designed to be collected, swapped and worn together. A loop wider than the chain means a charm goes on and comes off in seconds, and several charms hang side by side on one chain without catching on each other. One charm is a necklace. Three charms on one chain is a decision.

Which chain to wear it on

The 40cm snake chain is 1mm wide and carries several charms at once. The 45cm dainty chain is 0.25mm wide and made for one charm worn alone. Add either chain to the cart with this charm and €5 comes off the chain automatically at checkout.

How to care for peridot and gold plating

Take the charm off before showering, swimming, cleaning or putting on perfume, because chemicals and friction wear down gold plating faster. Peridot is sensitive to acids and sudden temperature changes, so keep peridot away from household cleaners and never clean it in an ultrasonic machine. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth and store it alone in a closed pouch so harder stones don't scratch it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is peridot a natural stone? Peridot is a natural gemstone, the gem-quality form of the mineral olivine. Peridot is very rarely treated, because its green colour comes from iron already in the crystal.

What does 18ct gold-plated mean? 18ct gold-plated means a layer of 18-carat gold (75% pure gold) is bonded over 925 sterling silver. "18ct" describes the purity of the gold plating and has nothing to do with the carat weight of the stone.

Can I wear the peridot charm every day? Peridot rates 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, which makes the stone fine for daily wear with some care. Take the charm off for sport, cleaning and swimming to protect both the stone and the gold plating.

Which chain fits the charm? Both House Of 18th Jewellery chains fit: the 40cm snake chain (1mm) and the 45cm dainty chain (0.25mm). Buying a chain together with a charm takes €5 off the chain.

Can I wear several charms together? The oversized loop lets several House Of 18th Jewellery charms hang on one chain. The 1mm snake chain is the better choice for wearing more than one charm.
